How the heck do I know I’ll like his crap?
You’ll have to sample some of his work to find out — and you might like some of it and not the rest. His work assumes many styles, but focuses on strong characters. If you like character-oriented stories that are deftly plotted, and if you appreciate a wild sense of wonder, you’ll likely find something to appreciate.

Please do not make fun of Mr. Shockley’s voice. He works with what he has. He is very sensitive about his limitations in this area and has been known to get quite violent when cornered about it. Just as a suggestion, you might not want to belabor this point with him.
